Since 1996 the Trulli of Alberobello are included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Their priceless value, due to the uniqueness of their features, urged the UN to protect them as cultural heritage.
Apulia boasts another monument of high architectural value though: Castel del Monte, in Andria. The charm of this imposing fortress with an octagonal plan built in 1200 by Federico II also derives from its origins and its mysterious form, which are still the core of great studies aimed at discovering its true purpose.
You can also discover the amazing Sassi di Matera, a little more than an hour drive from Castel del Monte.
